This Jin Shin Jyutsu® self-help flow supports the entire body because our fingers and toes are energetically connected. It works through all energetic depths and tissues, helping to bring harmony and balance throughout the body’s system.
The Opposite Fingers and Toes Flow is especially beneficial in the following situations:
- When someone is in the hospital or resting at home due to illness
- When they are unconscious
- When they are receiving cancer care
- For spinal or disk injuries
- For pneumonia
- For arthritis
I often do this while lying in bed beside my husband—both of us on our sides, facing each other. My husband is tall so he lies in the fetal position. I position myself a little lower towards his knees, so I can easily reach both his hands and feet. You can also sit on a chair next to the person in bed or on a couch, as long as you are both comfortable.
To gently harmonise your loved one’s energy, simply hold their opposite fingers and toes (see image below for guidance). I suggest starting with the thumb, so you can remember which direction you are moving towards. As you move from thumb to pinkie finger, you move from their pinkie toe to their big toe.

It doesn’t matter which hand and foot you start with. So to start, wrap your hand around their left thumb, and with your other hand hold their right pinkie toe. After a few (2-3) minutes, move your hand to their left index finger and to their fourth right toe, and keep going until you finish holding all of their left fingers and right toes. You can hold the finger and opposite toe for longer if you feel a pulsation (like a heartbeat). Wait for the pulsation to subside before moving on to the next finger and toe.

Then do the same with the right hand and left toes. You don’t need to squeeze the fingers and toes, just gently hold as much of the finger and toe as possible. There’s no time limit to complete all ten—follow your intuition and move at a pace that feels right.
