Navigating Menopause with Jin Shin Jyutsu: A Holistic Approach to Wellness
Menopause is a significant life milestone for every woman, marking the end of your reproductive years and ushering in a series of physical, emotional, and psychological changes. While this transition is a natural part of life, it can bring a range of symptoms that can sometimes feel overwhelming. In this article, we’ll explore how Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ), a powerful healing art, can support you in managing these symptoms, helping you regain balance and calm.
I remember feeling a deep sadness when I first entered perimenopause. Over time, I came to realise that my body was simply doing what it needed to do, taking care of me in its own way. This shift in perspective was empowering. Louise Hay, the author of You Can Heal Your Life, believed that emotional patterns, such as fear of aging, self-rejection, and the fear of no longer being desired, could contribute to the physical and emotional symptoms of menopause. She also pointed to feelings of guilt, fear, and a rejection of femininity as factors that might underlie menstrual issues. Understanding these emotional connections helped me release negative thoughts and embrace this new chapter with more grace.
Louise’s Mantra: I am balanced and peaceful in all changes of cycles and I bless my body with love.
I really love this book. When you click on the image of the book, it links to 66 pages for you to read before buying.
From my personal experience, I’ve found that hot flashes often occur during stressful situations. Practicing Jin Shin Jyutsu self-help “quickies” while focusing on my breath helped me through these moments. It’s a simple yet effective way to ground yourself and bring relief. However, it’s important to remember that healing takes time. Be patient with yourself as you practice, as results may not be immediate but will gradually unfold with consistent care. It is also very important to be comfortable when doing any of these exercises.
Let’s dive deeper into how Jin Shin Jyutsu can support you in finding balance, acceptance, and healing during menopause. Whether you’re experiencing hot flashes, mood swings, or a shift in your sense of self, JSJ can offer a gentle, holistic approach to navigating the changes with greater ease and peace.
GENERAL QUICKIE
This quickie helps to balance your hormones. With your right hand, hold your left shoulder (close to your neck) & put your left thumb over your ring finger nail. You only need to do this side.

HOT FLASHES
Hold your left calf on the outside of your leg with your right hand. If this position isn’t comfortable, use your left hand.

If you are ready to rip off your clothes and it isn’t convenient to reach your outside left calf, hold your little fingers one at a time. The more you take time to hold this position during the day, the more it can help prevent hot flashes.

IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY & REDUCE BRAIN FOG
Place your right hand on the crown of your head & place your left fingers between your eyebrows. This is the first step of “Main Central” (see blog #5 for more details). You can do this sitting up or lying down, however you are most comfortable. If lying down, I suggest you put pillows under your elbows for support.

INSOMNIA
There are always choices for JSJ self-help. I like to hold my fingers & thumbs one at a time (see blog #4 The Attitudes). If you feel a pulsation (like a heart beat), you need to hold that finger until it subsides. Then move onto the next finger. Another option is to do the “Main Central” (see blog #5 for details).
You can also hold the base of each of your thumbs one at a time (see image below).

HEADACHES
Where to hold depends on where the pain in your head is located. A general quickie for headaches is to cross your arms and place your hands on the inside of your knees. This helps pull down the energy that is stuck higher up in your body, so it also helps bloating and indigestion.

When the Pain is at the Back of your Head: Hold the base of your thumb on the one hand and then switch and do the other side.

When the Pain is at the Front of your Head: Hold the outside of both your ankles at the same time.

Migraines: Hold both your big toes at the same time or have someone hold them for you.

NIGHT SWEATS
- Place your left hand on your right shoulder
- Place your right hand on your last right rib
- Hold for a few minutes, then switch sides

IMPROVE YOUR MOOD
- Hold each of your fingers one at a time (see blog #4 about the Attitudes)
- Do the “Main Central” (see blog #5 for more details)
